OSCAconnect, OSCAnet, and Scotch 82 Social Media Features

Taking a Closer Look at the Features of OSCAnet, OSCAconnect, and Scotch 82 Social Media Sites.

Aim:

The aim of this blog is to help provide an overview for our Classmates to compare what we've come up with (using Social Media Sites) during our 3 Milestone Prototyping Phase, compared to what OSCA have compiled, since 2012.

Milestone Three...

For info on the lead up to us arriving at Milestone 3, please see our End of Year Wrap for 2020 ->  https://scotch82wrap2020.blogspot.com/2020/03/scotch-82-wraps-2020-milestone-3.html

OSCA have also been busy analyzing User Feedback and delivering our new OSCAConnect website, that incorporates Social Media Platform Links as well as Groups, and other Community features.

What's next?

Our Scotch 82 Active Admins (Secret) Group has been able to produce a Comparison Infographic "OSCA Connect vs Scotch 82".

Thanks to all our Classmates who have been involved in our Groups, and who have provided so much helpful feedback across our Scotch 82 Social Media Sites, and Spoken Up!

Our Story:

Prototyping, or listening to User Feedback, as we look to create a Social Media friendly Classmate and Old Boy Experience to Reconnect, Reconcile, and then Reunite, during the lead up to our 40 Year Reunion, has provided heaps of Equal Opportunities, so far.

Classmates that have sent their Son's along to Board, like many of them did, have reported a much improved experience, just as Great Scot has illustrated.

Our Sons have also become Day Boys too, and there is an amazing change in the way Students can now access resources that some of us we would have loved to have had, to help us feel more Equal, on the odd occasion we may have felt at odds with our Parents, Teachers, and our greater Scotch Family, of previous generations.

Synergy:

Interdependence between Students, Young Old Boys, Older Old Boys,  and our greater Scotch Family, is something Social Media has allowed our Year Group, and our Peer Groups, to explore, in a new way.

"Current OSCA resources" are there for us to enjoy, and as we've sort to make a contribution to OSCA's ongoing Social Media Adventure, perhaps we need to take a moment to think about if The Scotch 82/OSCA Synergy will continue, beyond our 40 Year Reunion, in it current shape, scope, and form?

Thanks to all of our Classmates who have joined OSCAConnect -> https://oscaconnect.com.au/ and who are connecting with Year Groups, Peer Groups, our Individual Classmates, as well as Clubs and Societies.

Our Story, as it appeared on our Scotch 82 facebook page (see above), describes where we were at, when we started our Year Group Social Media Adventure on facebook in 2012, but does it reflect where we are now?

Comparison Diagram(s):

To make an informed decision about where we are at now, and our future use of Social Media, in an Interdependent model, could that mean we need a kind of Social Media Central Meeting Point?

Furthermore, can Year Groups, Peer Groups, and Individual Old Boys connect and commune together, as well as members of our Clubs and Societies, along side our OSCA Councilors, in an Online and Social Media like and linked environment today?

Enter OSCA Connect!

Here is a Comparison between the features of our OSCA Connect/OSCA Net websites, and our Scotch 82 Social Media (web)sites.

Contingency Planning:

Coming up with a (draft) proposal that our Year Group can vote on (if deemed appropriate by OSCA), that takes into consideration the changing landscape of the way Old Boys communicate using websites and Social Media sites, whilst keeping in mind our OSCA Constitution (with it's Pastoral Care Planning priority), need not be overly complicated.

Scotch 82 Active Admins (Secret) Group & Businesses (Secret) Group

We started our Contingency Planning for the future of our Social Media Adventure, post our 40 Year Reunion, last year, within our Scotch 82 Groups.

Making Group decisions has been possible, and our Scotch 82 Active Admins and Scotch 82 Business Lads have provided plenty of User Feedback.

For those who have joined OSCAConnect, you will have realised their is a lot of activity going on which is proving to be of a Synergistic Nature for our Year too!

There is a growing case to be made for having just the one facebook (Secret) Group for our Year, now that so many of our Classmates have joined OSCAConnect, and are taking advantage of the growing variety of linked Groups, as a matter of choice.

Classmates want to feel they have not been forgotten, and that they are being listened to.

A combined Group for our Year, if not created in the OSCAConnect Social Media like and linked environment, is perhaps going to help those who are still struggling with their time at Scotch College and Reconnecting with their Peers.

Combining the best ingredients of Scotch 82 Businesses, with our Scotch 82 Active Admins Group (plus our Archived Groups) into the one Scotch 82 Connect (Secret) Group, is just one Contingency.

Scotch 82 facebook Groups, linked to our Scotch 82 site/page, has been a great way to keep the conversation going between Classmates, in a private setting.

#Scotch82 and/or #ScotchCollegeClassOf1982

The #Scotch 82 (hashtag) option started to be utilized in 2015, and will continue to be another great feature of facebook that similarly gives our Classmates the ability to communicate in a public space, with the rest of our year, like on our Scotch 82 facebook page.

Although hastags are not administer by a Linked facebook Group, like our Scotch 82 Active Admins (Secret) Group, that gives our Classmates the ability to have our own Guidelines, Classmates can communicate their needs/wants directly with facebook about this feature ->  https://www.facebook.com/formedia/blog/using-hashtags-on-facebook

Scotch has Changed!

There is a noticeable change in the way our Classmates communicate since we have seen the Support offered and received by those who were not able to Speak Up during our time at School, but have since received tangible Friendship Pastoral Care and Support, during our Year's use of Social Media.

To this end, we have also seen a significant change in the way the Scotch Students of today are supporting each other to believe "It's not weak to speak" -> https://www.scotch.vic.edu.au/staff-submitted-news/not-weak-to-speak.aspx
